Introducing: Matchbook

Folks, I am IN LOVE with the sudden swell of online design and lifestyle magazines.  There's Rue Magazine, Ivy & Piper, Anthology (which you can also order in print), and of course Lonny Magazine.  Add now to this growing list, Matchbook. The tagline to the 'zine is "Field Guide to a Charmed Life," and boy does it live up to that statement.

I'm adoring the mission statement, too.  From their site:

Here are some images from the debut issue, on virtual newsstands now!  (Sigh, if only I could scoop up these stellar mags in print and flip through their glossy pages forever.  Long live magazines!)

Friday Find: Anchor Hocking jar

In my dreams, I would buy about a hundred of these, and fill them will everything from baking supplies (flour, sugar, etc) and other dried goods to crafting wares, collectibles, or even a terrarium.  Long live the glass jar!

The great navy couch

My dad and I are going to begin recovering my vintage Clayton Marcus camelback couch soon, in a glorious shade of navy not far off from the one pictured above.

My apartment (a sneak peek!)

The above is an image of the sitting area located in the dining room of my apartment.  Be on the look out for a more expanded post of my (getting there but not quite finished) decorated apartment sometime next week!

Bathroom renovation inspiration

The plan is to renovate the bathroom in my apartment sometime this month.  Inspired by the above looks.  Trying not to go overboard with the nautical, but it's so hard.

Somerville in the snow

Lots of snow in Boston today.  I like the snow because it paints the world in black and white. It's like opening up your front door and walking into a postcard from the 1920s.

Bright, inspired color on a drab day

It's blizzarding in Boston.  This striped chair would certainly brighten even the drabbest of days.

Calypso St. Barth bedding sale

I've been hot for neutrals lately as I redecorate my bedroom.  I'm loving the idea of combining lots of different shades of white and khaki, with the occasional pop of green or yellow or navy, to create an overall soothing, spa-like feel. Can't you imagine this lovely bedding from Calypso St. Barth on a canopy bed by the sea?

'Be seduced a little bit every day'

"It's almost, like going out there and letting yourself fall in love a little bit every day.  Letting yourself be seduced a little bit every day."
--Scott Schuman, The Sartorialist

I've done previous posts that detail my love for The Sartorialist and his amazing street photography.  He is like a modern-day Robert Doisneau.  The above video does an excellent job of giving us all a peek into this man's beautiful, visual-driven life.  (Love the scene in the barbershop.)  Watch it.  You won't be disappointed.

To be resolute

Happy New Year!  I've been thinking a lot lately about do-overs.  About second chances and fabulous firsts.  My resolution:  to a year filled with trying new things and giving a second shot to others.  So cheers to a year of firsts (and maybe a few seconds).

The above is a photo of Tuckerman's Ravine, a natural basin in Mount Washington.  Getting there requires a 4(ish) hour hike in, with gear and everything strapped to your back. I skiied this 10 years ago, back when I was 16 and I plan to do it again this year.  Can't wait!

Here are just a smattering of the "firsts" I plan to conquer this year:
  • Roast a whole chicken in the oven
  • Host a dinner party
  • Hike Mt. Katahdin
  • Read Kurt Vonnegut's entire collection
What are some of your New Year's Resolutions?
