The French call her La dame de fer -- the iron lady. Designed by Gustave Eiffel, the tower took two years to build. And today just happens to be her birthday! Here are a couple photos by one of my favorite photographers, Robert Doisneau, in honor of the 123rd anniversary of the opening of the Eiffel Tower.
Absolutely adore this Louis XVI-era settee. The grey re-upholstery really gives it a modern look, but paired with the traditional bones and gilded wood, it becomes a fresh and innovative re-imagining of a classic. It's selling for $1,675.00 on etsy and at pinkpigwestport.com.
I'm traveling to the sunshine and clear waters of Key West this weekend and you better believe I'm bringing my trusty straw hat with me. Will post photos once I return!
*Post title is from a Robert Louis Stevensen quote: "I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel's sake. The great affair is to move."
Have had this image stored on my computer for some time now because I just love the way each individual piece comes together to create the total look. The rich, chestnut-colored leather boots have a saddle-like, equestrian quality to them. Paired with a high-waisted, almost flouncy skirt and striped top, this look becomes everything I love about fashion and design. Simple, classic shapes. A little bit preppy. A dash of New England nautical. Understated and polished. Never out of style.
I can see this girl, whoever she may be, living in a place like this:
How fabulous is this cable knit bedding? I'm off skiing in the mountains for a couples days -- would love to come in from the chill and get cozy in something like this!
Found this great shot in my saved images folder. I'm not entirely sure which advertiser it is, but judging by the clothes, photo styling, and model choices, my best guess is that it's either Banana Republic, j.crew, or Land's End. Anyone know for sure?
My dad and I are teaming up to start doing a bit of custom reupholstery work. Okay, let's face it: dad's the one with all the skills and I just give my opinion and call it contributing. Check out our first joint venture for a client below. All reupholstery work was done by dear ol' Dad and the photo styling is by yours truly.
